  1. Have you ever tried to make a YouTube video responsive? If so, it can be somewhat tricky. I came across a small problem when adding a video from YouTube to one of my blog posts about the Childish Gambino website that we created. Since this website is fully responsive, I needed the YouTube video to re-size depending on the browser size or device width. However, when I added the embed code, the video had a fixed height and width. (uggh!) This looked fine on desktop computers, but pretty much broke the design when viewing on a mobile device. I wanted to know how to make a youtube video mobile. Therefore, we needed a responsive YouTube embed code. One would think that videos that with 100% width would automatically resize to the surrounding container. Well, that is not the case. Surprisingly, Youtube does not automatically have a responsive embed code.

  3. Last year I wrote a post, Need for Speed, where I shared my workflows and techniques along with the tools involved in the development of my site. Since then my site has gone through another redesign, and although I made various workflow and server-side improvements, I gave front-end performance extra attention. Here’s what I did, why I did it, and the tools I used to optimize front-end performance on my site.

  8. Many sites use the MediaWiki software, including wikiHow! As you can see, despite the fact that MediaWiki comes with a set of ready-to-use skins, many sites, such as wikiHow, choose to have their own skin to give the site a unique look and feel. Customizing how a MediaWiki based site looks can be achieved in many ways all involving skins. Usually, creating a new skin from scratch is not necessary for many levels of customizations. In other situations, creating a skin based on one of the already-implemented ones, such as MonoBook, then tweaking it to your needs will be more than enough. However, if you really want to dramatically change the layout of the wiki, you might need to create your own skin from the ground up. This article will guide you with doing this in a systematic, organized and easy way![

  14. In this article, I’d like to reacquaint you with the humble workhorse of communication that is the paragraph. Paragraphs are everywhere. In fact, at the high risk of stating the obvious, you are reading one now. Despite their ubiquity, we frequently neglect their presentation. This is a mistake. Here, we’ll refer to some time-honored typesetting conventions, with an emphasis on readability, and offer guidance on adapting them effectively for devices and screens. We’ll see that the ability to embed fonts with @font-face is not by itself a solution to all of our typographic challenges.
