  1. What I've discovered since the day I bought that first Google Home, is that Google is eating Apple's ecosystem for lunch, piece by piece.

  4. What are our descendants going to think of us when they have to pry chunks of Droid RAZRs out of coral reefs and dig up old Windows Phones? What the hell are they going to do with >800,000,000 smartphones? (source) They’ll talk about how little foresight we had, and how poorly our toys were designed. None of this is new information to anyone, but designers need to think about these things every day. It’s just as important as visual design and usability design. It’s harder and more expensive to think about all the time, but it’s integral to creating holistic design.

  5. It's free, but it's monetized with little sponsored links, and it ties into Google's quest to lock up the business of location search. But the big business move for Google Maps was to start charging for API access after turning the service into a burgeoning platform. That's where the trouble started.

  6. If you want an example of a company that is doing "evil", consider Apple. I was horrified when I heard Mike Daisey, author of the one-man show "The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs," talking on This American Life about working conditions in the factories that make the iPhone and iPad, and Apple's tepid monitoring of those conditions. When a company has $98 billion in cash, and profits of tens of billions of dollars each quarter, does it really need to squeeze every last cent out of manufacturing costs?
